A massive motor for the Green Recovery

07 October 2020

The rail supply industry can be a massive motor for Europe’s “Green Recovery” from Covid-19. We just need the right investments and policy environment at EU and national levels. Our pledge to policymakers explains exactly how!

The pledge was jointly prepared by the Community of European railways and infrastructure companies (CER), the association of the European rail infrastructure managers (EIM) and the association of the European rail supply industry (UNIFE).

The creation of a seamless and frictionless single European transport area should be at the heart of Europe's recovery plan and action. An EU-wide focus remains essential to ensure that transport and climate policies are aligned with common objectives and criteria.

The principle of ‘polluter pays’ and ’modal shift’ towards sustainable modes – set in a newer digital and multimodal context – are also key to make EU transport greener and climate-neutral by 2050. With 2021 as the European Year of Rail, accelerating the shift from road to rail will generate more #GreenJobs and #GreenOpportunities. Together, we can get Europe's recovery on the fast-track.
